“Château Mercian Hokushin Left Bank Chardonnay Rivalis 2019” from Mercian Corporation (President: Michio Nagabayashi) won the gold medal in Challenge International du Vin 2021 held in Bordeaux, France from Tuesday 18 to Wednesday 19 May 2021, and resulted as the only Japanese wine awarded a gold medal.

Challenge International du Vin

・The Challenge International du Vin is an international wine competition that has been held in the Bordeaux region of France since 1976.
・At the 45th edition in 2021, more than 3,500 wines from 27 countries were entered and evaluated by around 800 wine experts and connoisseurs.

“Château Mercian Hokushin Left Bank Chardonnay Rivalis 2019"
This wine is made from 100% Chardonnay grapes grown on the clay soil of the left bank of the Chikuma River in the Hokushin District of northern Nagano Prefecture. "Rivalis" means "river" in Latin, the river giving quality wine from the left and right bank. It has rich aroma balanced with soft acidity.
