Decanter World Wine Awards

The Decanter World Wine Awards, held in London annually since 2004, is one of the world’s largest wine competitions with more than 10,000 entries every year and is organized by the U.K.-based wine and lifestyle magazine Decanter. The panel of judges comprises winemakers, wine journalists, and wine experts with the Master of Wine qualification, which is considered one of the most hardest-to-get qualifications in the wine industry. In the 2021 competition, 18,093 wines entered.

Gold Medal Winner: Château Mercian Mariko Omnis 2016

A blend of red wine varieties harvested from the “Best Vineyard in Asia” - Château Mercian Mariko Vineyard - surrounded by the scenic Japanese Alps in Nagano Prefecture, this iconic wine represents the Château Mercian Mariko Winery and expresses the terroir of the year for the vineyard. The 2016 vintage is well-structured with good acidity, rich fruit and voluminous tannins, and is expected to evolve further with bottle aging. The name "Omnis" means "all" in Latin and expresses the full potential of the red wines of the Mariko Vineyard.
